Groundbreaking discoveries at Drumburgh!

The Solway Coast National Landscape are delighted to be funding an archaeological excavation project at Drumburgh through their Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) programme. The excavation is being carried out by Grampus Heritage and Training following a positive geophysical survey last year, which indicated that there may be some interesting finds here.

Taking place between 6th to 25th October 2025, the project hopes to solve many mysteries regarding the arrangement of Hadrian’s Wall, the fort of Congavata and Milecastle 76 at Drumburgh. Volunteers from the local community have joined in with the dig, getting first hand archaeological experience and a glimpse into the fascinating world hidden beneath our feet.

Keep up to date with the dig by following our social media, visiting our website or signing up to our newsletter!

Funding is still available through our FiPL programme, please contact our farming officer at farming@solwaycoastaonb.org.uk to find out more.
