2025 Bird Ringing Report – Crosscanonby Carr Nature Reserve

Interesting findings at Crosscanonby Carr Nature Reserve!

The West Cumbria Ringing Group have released their report for Crosscanonby Carr Nature Reserve 2025.
In 2025 the group ringed or re-trapped 241 individual birds of 31 species at this site, an increase from 27 species recorded in 2024. One of the most interesting species recorded was the Cetti’s Warbler, see the report extract below.

“We are thrilled to report the first breeding for Cetti’s Warbler, when in May we caught both adult male and female, the female having a ‘brood patch’, a sure sign she was brooding chicks or incubating eggs. This is only the third confirmed breeding in Cumbria-and the most northerly and represents a further northerly extension in the UK of this pioneering southern European specialist.”

Thank you to the West Cumbria Ringing Group for sharing their findings with us. You can find out more by following their social media which is linked below!
